our movement
We are fighting for accountability and justice from the State of Arizona for causing and enabling harm, injury, and death to thousands of Native Americans through the State’s mismanagement and lack of oversight of substance abuse programs funded by Arizona’s Medicaid system (known as AHCCCS). Thousands of Native Americans died, suffered injuries, experienced homelessness, incurred new addictions, and received no legitimate addiction treatment services. The State knew of this horrific scheme by fraudulent treatment providers and sober living homes since 2019, yet unexplainably continued to blindly fund the fraudsters’ scheme; to what would become the biggest fraud in Arizona history – $2.8 Billion dollars of mostly federal funds.
Here is the scheme: Native Americans were fraudulently recruited, preyed upon, and even trafficked under the false promise of free addiction treatment services, free housing, and free meals; yet, there was no treatment. Rather, Native Americans were being physically and mentally harmed, controlled, intimidated, and even provided drugs and alcohol so the fraudsters could continue to bill AHCCCS. Thousands of Natives have been affected and the State of Arizona has done little to nothing to help the Natives. The fraud and harm continue to this day.
It is “a colossal failure in government” (quoting Kris Mayes – Arizona Attorney General).
